DIY Happy Birthday Banner

One way or another, you got led here because something inspired you. Pinterest and Instagram inspired me to come up with a Happy Birthday Banner for my baby girls 1st Birthday among other things posted here. I'm a visual person, so I hope these pictures and information helps. It is very simple so don't fear!! Also, to learn how to make the tissue paper tassels there are TONS of tutorials on Pinterest. It was my first time making them and they didn't come out too shabby. :)

 Materials Needed:
-Letters
-Ribbon
-Tape

The gold glitter letters are fro Jo-Ann's, they are the Sticko Regular X Large Black Glitter Futura Alphabet Sticker. If you want to get fancy and have your own unique font, you can use glitter paper instead to print on.

The gold metallic ribbon is from Walmart. But of course, use the ribbon color/size of your choice.

So the only thing you need to do is:
1. Tape the letters to the string/ribbon
2. Decide how spaced out your letters need to be
3. Make tissue paper tassels

Here is a close up of how the letters are on the ribbon, I used one sided tape, it would be so much easier if you used double sided tape! But you don't need much at all! The letters that I used are stickers, but it didn't really matter to me because I just wanted gold glitter letters. I did try to stick them to white card stock, then cut out the letters out one by one so the back wouldn't be "sticky" but it was too time consuming, and plus the letters weren't very sticky to begin with.

And here is the complete look, very simple and the perfect backdrop for my baby girls smash cake session. (The tassel that is stuck on the letters is bugging me! I noticed it too late before I could retake the pic.)

Thanks for reading! :)

DIY MAKEUP VANITY ON A BUDGET

I am sharing how to make your very own Makeup Vanity on a budget. The design is all in your hands and you can get the same great look for a great price! Continue reading below on the steps I took to make sure I got exactly what I wanted.

Do your research: I got inspired to create my own DIY Makeup Vanity from Pinterest. It sparked my interest and I viewed a lot of blogs on how people created their own and put together my own list of materials. I also searched on Google & Youtube for DIY Makeup Vanity. There are several ways you can create one, just do your research and see what sparks your interest to be creative!

Materials needed:

1. Table/Desk: The very important item you need is a table/desk that you want to use as your vanity. You want to make sure that you will be happy with it and that you have the desired space/storage you need for your makeup. Look at Wal-Mart, Target, or even thrift stores! Be creative.

I purchased the Micke Desk from Ikea for only $49.00. The size worked perfect for the small space in my bedroom, and I wanted something that had a drawer to store my makeup.

2. Mirror: I wanted something simple that would fit perfectly along with the width of my desk.  You can use any size that you want, framed or frameless. I wanted a frameless mirror and I found it at Lowes for $13.97. Keep in mind that you will need to purchase mirror clips to be able to hang your mirror on the wall, I found mine at Lowes for $2.97/pk.

3. Wall Lamp: In order to achieve the perfect "Hollywood Lighting" you will need wall lamps! Typically they are used for bathroom lighting, but there is a way to install them wherever your Makeup Vanity is set up. I used two on each side of my mirror to have the lighting I wanted, and will allow me to have the perfect makeup application every time. I purchased the MUSIK Wall Lamps from Ikea $14.99ea. Most, if not all wall lamps that you can purchase from your local Home Depot or Lowes are just too big and bulky for my taste.

Installation of Wall Lamp: There isn't any special way to install the wall lamps, its your choice on how many wall lamps you want, I've seen some people have one or two, its depends on your preference and the look you want to achieve.

Important: Your wall lamps don't come with cords to plug into the wall. Therefore you will need a base switch cord, these are normally for lamps, so you will need to cut the candelabra part of the base switch cord, twist the base switch cord wires to the wall lamp wires and secure with a wire nut connector. If you are unsure on how to do this, search YouTube and there are several videos on how to do it!  I purchased the base switch cords from Lowe's $5.63ea.

4. Lighting: This is very important to be able to achieve a great makeup application every time. You will need natural or daylight lighting, or clear light bulbs. You DON'T want light bulbs that give off a yellow glare, you just won't get a great makeup application. The bulbs I purchased were GE Reveal Clear 40w. I was able to purchase them from Wal-Mart & Target. $5.99 per 2pk. You'll need to make sure the base of the bulbs are as small as the ones pictured here to fit in the MUSIK Wall Lamp if you decide to purchase the wall lamps from Ikea.

5. Makeup Containers: There are so many different ways to store your make up, I found acrylic containers from The Container Store. They fit perfectly in my desk, and glad that I purchased them! You can purchase some that are sectioned, but I bought the open tray kind so I wasn't limited to the size of makeup I stored. There are countless alternatives and storage containers to use, you aren't limited to only acrylic containers. Find what you want for your own creative space. The acrylic containers were $5.99ea. 3 of the acrylic containers pictured below fit perfectly in the MICKE Desk from Ikea.

6. Seating: You can't forget this! I purchased the MARIUS Stool from Ikea for $5.99. I didn't want something too big for the space in my bedroom, and this easily slides underneath the vanity.

And that's it! I hope this inspires you to be creative to get the vanity you desire!  Please ask questions if you need any help!

Also.....I have to give credit to my awesome patient husband who put my Vanity together!!
